If this has been requested before, than fine, I would like to request it again.

I have been waiting for the opportunity to select a background color...and here it is!! This feature is awesome. The problem I have with it is, it is drawing specific - not global.

E.S. is it too much to ask to make this possible?

Respectfully,

pdoug

Try using Stationery Pads and/or modifying the default stationery that loads when choosing File menu > New

Jai

I suppose that might be doable - Bill's crew is best equipped to address that one.

Use the Favorites directory in the Mac OS X Finder to keep a folder of PowerCADD Stationery Pad drawings, or just the Stationery Pad drawing files. Each time you choose File menu -> Open... from within PowerCADD, you are one click away from every Stationery Pad drawing you have (be it on your local hard drive, server or removable hard drive, etc.) Very Happy

However, if you have a collection of stationery pads (I have over a dozen myself), then the OS X Favorites method is available 'today' and in principle is the same approach you're describing. It just doesn't come up by choosing File menu -> New, you use Open... instead.

Hope that helps
Brian

Is it possible to invert all black objects to white automatic, when black background is selected ?
Now everything black is invisible when black background.

Paul,

You could use the Magic Wand Tool (WildTools) to select all objects with black pen or black fill and then change them all in one hit. It isn't automatic as you asked but isn't too many steps. After all, you aren't swapping back and forward, are you?

Derek.

Magic wand doesn't with groups, so i'll have to do some more steps.
With an archive of several hundred drawings switching from white to black is no option.

Regards

When the background color is set to black, then all black pen color attributes should invert to white automatically.

I can recreate your condition here and even with regression testing can't find a recent build where things behave correctly. The issue did come up in beta testing and at one time was addressed.

A note to EngSW is a good idea in case they don't get around to reading this discussion.

FYI: Select Special won't see inside groups // WT Needle tool will but that doesn't work on a global basis

Since the background color doesn't affect printed output, it creates a little bit of conflict with the WYSIWYG "ideal". Perhaps it is better to think of the background color as a user preference rather than a drawing attribute. For example, if a drawing is being worked on by two people, one of whom prefers to work with a black background (for some sort of nostalgic-for-A***CADr12-reason) and the other of whom prefers a very pale ivory background (a follower of Edward Tufte), then the best thing would be for the drawing to open up following the user's preference.

JohnMorse,

This is exactly what I am saying and why I posted. When more than one user is accessing a drawing they most often do not work the exact same way, and yet with the way background color works right now it forces someone to change the way they like to work. User preference is key.

Thanks for understanding my original post!

John Morse have you been snooping around on my computer? My background preference is for Tufte's ivory color (fffff3 is the html code for the color he uses on his website) because it lets me see what objeccts are white filled and what ones aren't, while (I think) preserving the what-you-see-is-absolutely-what-you-get characteristic that I love so much about PowerCADD

You can call me John, and no, I haven't been snooping. Just an educated guess.
