That's true - however, in the context of the new forum, the current registration system still provides for open access. Folks are free to browse as guests. The benefits of registration from an administrative aspect and from a community building perspective outweigh a virtually insignificant inconvenience. Visit the new forum, give it a whirl - the benefits are their with a minor learning curve and without the inconvenience alluded to your original note. Cheers Brian

FYI, in the very first overnight for the new forums, some 40% of postings were spam, even with required membership. Alfred, maybe you could correspond/communicate directly with Artifice Support regarding the difficulties you had getting a password accepted. Whatever the probelm, it should be fixed either with improved function or improved explanation. We recognize that in many ways the underlying software here does not meet our own standards of utter simplicity. However, it is also programmable enough that over time we plan to deburr and burnish the various rough edges. For that polishing process, your feedback is VALUABLE. In fact, we've created a forum to collect it: http://www.designcommunity.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=8 We recognize that, given the inherent barrier of required membership, the demand for simplicity and smoothness in the rest of the system is increased. Maybe it was just a brief glitch in the program. I really like being able to view all of the responses to postings this way.

Hard to open forum and see what activity is current and whether a thread I am interested in has new postings. I know you can have email notification but that becomes another intrusion. I used to just like scanning the old forum for new postings on topics of interest. Maybe I'll figure this one out. It actually seems more "closed" but I like seeing the thread messages together _________________ Peter B

My failure to receive a confirming email was because it was being caught by my junk mail filter. The confirming email is called Welcome to DesignCommunity Forums and it's from support@designcommunity.com Search your junk mail and you won't feel as stupid as me. Alfred
