Upgraded to OS 10.3.3 and PC 6.1 last week. In previous version, 9.2.2 with 5.12, I was able to grab some text and drag it across the screen and the page would scroll. Now when I try to drag an object to another part of the drawing the page doesn't want to scroll.

The autoscroll feature does work if I draw a line or use the selection tool.

Any ideas?

The new scrolling behavior is to accommodate drag-and-drop. You can turn drag-and-drop off and the scrolling behavior will be similar to PC2000.

drag and drop (to the desktop or another application or another pcadd drawing) can conflict with autoscrolling. The 'sweet spot' can be hard to hit.

Try Powercadd menu > preference > general > drag and drop

uncheck drag and drop and the behavior is more like PCadd2000 and OS 9

This article covers some additional information regarding navigation (including the above nuance) which may be worth reviewing.

hope that helps

What you are experiencing is a feature. The feature is called "drag and drop" and what it means is that when you overshoot the drawing window, the OS is expecting that you want to copy the selected objects onto the desktop or another document window. You and I know that this is pretty rare, but OS X doesn't.

There is a "cushion" of space right at the border of your document that will activate scrolling. It used to be even smaller in early versions of PCadd 6 than it is now. Unfortunately it doesn't allow for that "drag farther to scroll faster" satisfaction you used to enjoy.

What you probably want to do is go into your PowerCADD preferences and uncheck the box for "Drag and Drop Enabled". This will allow scrolling-while-dragging to behave as it used to, albeit probably a little bit slower due to all the calculations required to render your quartz-enabled transparent selection and the rest of your drawing beneath it after every increment.

Todd, Brian, John

Thanks for the info. Found the "cushion" and also the "drag and drop" box. Both seem to work. I'll have to experiment to see what works best for me.

Quite frankly, I like the Drag and Drop feature.

I just have to remember to turn it on or off depending upon my need to enable scrolling when I drag an object to a different location "off page."

I have also found that I can no longer adjust the size of the test block as I did in Ver 2000. Furthermore, no highlight handles appear when I click on a text block, and so I'm never quite sure if I have selected it.

what version/build of PCD6 and what OS?
Is Quartz Imaging turned off?

there was an issue in builds/versions prior to 6.10 or 6.09 (I forget which) where, if Quartz imaging was off, selected text handle bars will shift. Turning on Quartz or getting the latest build fixed the issue w/Quartz off

Text block sizes can be adjusted by dragging as per previous versions. The problem maybe specific to the issue noted above. Fixing that should fix the drag to resize issue.

hope that helps
