How do I get OSX to recognize my HP 488CA printer?
I know that much has been written about this. I have been searching though numerous posts on the subject .
I think I have most of the information needed to set up the printer, but I can't seem to get there. I have the IP address of of JetDirect server (which I got from printing out the JetDirect configuration page). I also know where to find the 488CA on the menu at the bottom of the printer setup window (and it does indicate that I have gimp-print v.4.2.5).
However, I cannot determine the "Queue Name" which is required in the printer set-up window. In my window, there is NO option for "Use default queue on server" which has been mentioned in some of the posts. One error message I got when I try to print mentions that the host is unknown, but I only saw that once.
Can anyone tell me how to find the proper "Queue Name? Any other advice?
The printer has been working flawlessly on OS9, and I have run various tests to confirm that it is still working correctly. It just won't print from OSX, which means it won't print from PowerCADD 7, which I have just installed.

Susan:
You have something not right in the setup, as you should not have to enter anything into the queue name.
Here's some old directions I used for a 455CA:
1. Get the IP address for your HP jetdirect ex plus server box by printing its configuration page(s). (might have to read the manual)
Note the IP Address is four sets of numbers separated by periods, example: 192.168.123.113
2. Open up Printer Setup Utility
3. Click Add (printer) button while holding the Option key down
4. Select the Advanced option in the first pulldown button.
5. For the Device, Select the Appsocket/HP Jetdirect
6. Give it a Name, HP 488CA for example
7. In the device URI field, type the IP address from step one above after the text "socket://" whihc is already there.
8. Printer Model. Select the HP, and then scroll down the list until you see the DesignJet 488CA. It will have some other info appended to the name "CUPS + Gimp…"
9. Click on the Add button and your done.
10. You'll need to go to Page Setup in PowerCadd to select it and a standard or custom paper size.

Hi,
Well, time to resurrect this old fossil. I have a new 24" iMac with Leopard. All software updates as of this afternoon.
My HP 488ca worked fine on the earlier G5 tower with 10.4.11. I went through the same set up system (a bit different in 10.5) and all I get is the "Network Host (IP Number) is Busy" when I try to print. The jet direct box will Ping, and so I assume it is visible to the computer.
Anybody else suffering with this aspect of 10.5? It's driving me nuts. I can only crawl around on the floor fussing with cables so long at my age. Plus I really need the plots.
Not at all a PCadd issue, but I feel like that there will be some sympathetic ears here.
Cheers
