Forgive that I'm just now getting up to speed, I just upgraded from Version 6 to V-8. Is it correct that the display scale does not show up any where on any window? I just started looking for it and couldn't find it anywhere.
I wouldn't say that I looked for it extensively, but I know that when I had a question about line weight, I would glance over to make sure I was looking at normal scale.

you can show it in the toolbar (if you are showing the toolbar) go to Views and customize the Toolbar. The font is not very large, but there you go.

I gather from the way you stated it that if I'm not using the Tool Bar, I'm out of luck.
