| I need to show this led finger light with a white background. But the light needs to be on and show a little color on that white background. If I just use a brush and white out some area around the light hitting the table then it does not look very good. I want to make a great looking photo to put on the front of this website. I would appreciate any help at all. There is a photo now on the front of this website www.lducompany.com of the finger light but they want me to change it to have a white back ground but show the color light. Thank you. |

It helps to understand how Quartz shadows are handled. A shadow is a copy of an existing image that is blurred and offset.
To have a dark gray shadow, typically you would create a black object then assign a shadow attribute to it.
Then if you don't want to see the black object, you would cover it up with another object.
So decide what color you want the shadow to be, create an object of that color, assign a shadow attribute to it. Then cover up this object with something else.

Is the right side of this picture the type of thing you are looking for ?
If so, you need to be using something like Photoshop.
A photo editing program.
I did this quick & rough mockup using Apple's Pages program.
I combined the white background photo with the colored background photo.
I used masking & transparencies to combine your 2 photos in order to let a little of the colored background show through the white background. I adjusted the amount of color I was looking for, by adjusting the opacity of the white background.
But an easier way to get the effect you want, might be by taking the picture over, using a light source to wash out the background to the extent you want --- by either adjusting the power of your flash, or by using some other light source and adjusting the intensity of the light.
