We made it through fine, just a major inconvenience and nuisance -- lots of smoke, people driving like idiots, our favorite stores evacuated, evacuees sleeping on the floor, etc. Now, we are dealing with cleaning windblown ash everyday. We live across town, with a view of the mountains -- virtually our entire mountain view is now burnt. It made for some mesmerizing nighttime fire watching last week. As a friend says, "sometimes it's nice to be in the cheap seats". It is amazing that a 5 mile strip of chaparral along the edge of town burnt (while the wind was blowing 25 to 50 mph towards town) yet we only lost 80 houses -- the firefighters were unbelievable!
