school me on linear patterning tool

Postby lavardera » Mon Apr 11, 2016 11:39 am

Here is what I want to do, and I am thinking the linear patterning tool is the best way, but maybe there is another tool that is better.

I want to create a dashed line to indicate a fire rating that includes the text for the rating in the dash pattern. So a line would look something like this:

––– 1hr ––– 1hr ––– 1hr ––– 1hr–––
or
––– smoke ––– smoke ––– smoke–––
etc

So what is the best way? Make an object group with a straight line and the text, and then use the linear patterning tool to string them together?

I've not used this tool before and need a step by step

No help? Its ok. The manual told me enough to make my way through.

Thought - after having to wade into the manual to figure this out, and it was fairly simple, I found the manual overwhelmingly comprehensive. I think it could be useful for each tool to have a "reference" section that does explain each function in exhaustive detail, but would benefit from a "quick start" description for each tool.

Such as for the linear patterning tool:

- pick up an object with the rubber stamp tool
- start drawing in linear patterns with the linear pattern pen tool.

It took me a couple of pages to fathom that much! :D

For WildTools I usually go to the website for info.

Maybe there could be a summary section at the top for the more complex tools?

Derek, I think that the bulk of the text on the site is largely the same as the manual, although the animated illustration are a bonus.
