dwg Importing Update?

Postby BILLGORE » Fri May 06, 2016 9:56 am

Do we have any idea when the DWG importing will catch up with the current versions of Autocad? I know they release a new versions almost every year but it would be nice to be able to import versions newer than 2010. In architecture we deal with a lot of consultants,
Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, and most of them are using Autocad.
So when we have to import drawings we either have to remind them to save down so we can import or we have to use our copy of Autocad for Mac that we were forced to buy a few years back and then do it in house ourselves.

IM IN A BIND WITH THE SAME ISSUE. What version to you ask your consultant to save their Autocad files back to. And do you fine DWG or DXF is better to translate with powercadd 9, os x.9.5

AutoCAD 2017 was released recently, but they're still using the 2013 file format. It looks like it has matured enough that they don't need to change it much anymore.

For those of us with this concern, one solution is to get Draftsight, a DWG-based CAD program available for free. Draftsight will allow one to save to earlier DWG versions. I save to 2007-2009. It also can help alleviate the sometimes annoying dialog that blocks the import of DWG's due to text-related issues.
