|
We're running PowerCADD on three Dual 2 GHz PPC G5s and one
ProMac G5 (OS 10.4.7, PC 7.0.3, WT 8.03). Files are shared via
ethernet to a Buffalo network-attached hard drive.
All of us are suffering from annoying, occasional, PowerCADD crashes.
Also occasional, but unpredictable, response slow-downs, particularly on the
Intel Mac (usually solved by trashing prefs, not a tactic we prefer).
In my case, these crashes occur at least once or twice a day, typically following PowerCADD startup, but prior to the first auto-save prompt (now set for 10 min.).
Not catastrophic certainly, but indicative of some inherent instability.
Do the Wise Ones of the Forum have any suggestions on the best way to chase this down?
Thanks in advance for your help. |

Try turning off the 'Check for Updates' in Powercadd Preferences.
Let the forum know if this helps. |

I have also had more PC crashes than I like over the past while.
I have "Check for Updates" turned off. I am using an Intel core 2 duo MacBookPro.
I have been unable to determine a pattern, though on a number of occasions it has happended during a save... |

Here's a weird one:
While working on my MacBook Pro, I sometimes experience balky startups when I try to start up PowerCadd. Sometimes it seems to take forever for the program to boot up. So I resort to force-quitting PowerCadd (in the force quit dialog, it sttes that the program is "not responding").
When this happens, I reboot the computer and the program then runs normally.

I also get powercadd crashing occassionaly with no warning.
Do you find powercadd runs faster on the Powermac G5 or the ProMac ? |

Although I keep my machine quite "lean", I have recently dumped some of my preferred third party applications and I believe have gained more stability in PC. In particular a couple of Unsanity applications "Fruitmenu" and "Windowshade", which I really liked.
I did this based on some comments from our IT guy, who says that particularly the Intel machines tend to be a bit less stable when these apps are running in the background, especially with Rosetta applications like PC.
Don't know if there is any truth to this, but I have had fewer weird Finder slowdowns and spinning beachballs... |
